About the role...

As Data Architect, you will be responsible for data architect solutions and strategies that support the overall business strategy and drives alignment to ensure the IT function collectively deliver simpler, flexible, and sustainable architecture. As a senior member of the IT team, you will partner internal and external stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to develop, build and upgrade IT systems.

Your Impact and Responsibilities…

As Data Architect, you will: 

  • Responsible for the architecture of data to enable the delivery of the business strategy and IT objectives.
  • Support the development of a target data architecture that will improve the business for customers and colleagues in line with our business and technology strategies and plans.
  • Identify the optimal approach for data to deliver the business strategy whilst increasing agility and driving simplicity and cost efficiency over the short, medium, and long term.
  • Contribute to developing short, medium, and long-term strategic data strategies and plans and then empower the SMEs to deliver them.
  • Maximise business benefits through the development of solutions, whilst also minimising the business risks. 
  • Support the development of architecture to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices that are agreed with key stakeholders.
  • Build and actively maintain relationships with all key stakeholders, including external service providers.
  • Ensure data architecture is kept up to date with legislative and regulatory requirements and ensure compliance and adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements such as PCI, GDPR and IT security standards.
  • landscape and standards that all internal and external parties need to adhere to.
  • Drive a commercially focused approach to data roadmaps and solutions, whilst seeking best value for solution investments, and ensuring that IT efficiency is balanced against both current and future business needs.
  • Operate in a fast-moving retail environment developing data strategies and plans for managing multiple projects in parallel, working with cross-functional teams to enable 
  • Architect data strategies and solutions that support Performance for Growth.
  • Challenge the business strategy through a broad understanding of technology and trends that will step change our customer and colleague proposition. 

Skills and Knowledge…

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong experience as a Data Architect from within a large and fast-paced organisation. A retail sector background is preferred but not essential. 
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering Data solutions within a technology landscape.
  • Demonstrable success in designing solutions on major programs.
  • In depth working knowledge of:
    • Data Infrastructures (On-prem and Cloud)
    • BI and Reporting solutions (Power BI, Cubes, SSRS, Semantic Models)
    • Database technologies (Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Data Lakes)
    • End to End Retail solutions
  • Strong technology understanding across Software, Infrastructure, Security, and Data.
  • Degree in a computing discipline (desirable)
  • TOGAF Certified Architect qualification (desirable)
