About the role...

Your role as a Transport Team Manager is to ensure deliveries arrive at store on time and in a safe, compliant manner.

You will ensure the delivery schedule is resourced to meet agreed requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) by providing effective management, control of processes, good communication, great leadership and motivation, and training and development.

Your Impact and Responsibilities…

  • Direct the daily activity to ensure a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for colleagues
  • Implement the daily schedule as issued by the Transport Planning Managers
  • Day to day management of driver colleagues
  • Delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Plan, manage and adjust staffing levels to meet operational requirements
  • Ensure relevant delivery updates are communicated to the RST team in a timely manner
  • Use vehicle tracking systems and debrief information to identify and reduce retail hours
  • Support the Shunters in ensuring appropriate driver and fleet checks are taking place
  • Organise and lead the focus on improved productivity targets
  • Liaise with on-site fleet providers to ensure we have full vehicle availability
  • Review detail from Driver Debriefs an Issue Log
  • Ensure you put health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues first
  • Manage drivers in accordance to Company policy regarding Drivers Infringements and Accidents
  • Ensure colleague holiday requests are managed in line with department procedure
  • Carry out scheduled one-to-one review meetings with Transport Coordinators
  • Manage attendance in line with company process and hold relevant meetings within timescale
  • Manage any disciplinary/grievance issues that arise as per the Union/Company agreement, liaising with senior managers and HR department for clarification and support
  • Carry out new starter colleague probation reviews
  • Celebrate and recognise success of the team by using Colleague of The Month or regular feedback sessions to advise colleagues on how they are doing
  • Ensure Company policies and Standard Operating Procedures are communicated, implemented and enforced where appropriate
  • Ensure all accidents/incidents are fully investigated and follow up actions taken
  • Ensure operations are legally compliant to all relevant transport legislation
  • Ensure all driver tachograph cards are downloaded at the start and end of every shift and any infringements are investigated and discussed with the driver
  • Ensure all hours are captured correctly on the CDC and any pay queries are investigated and followed up in a timely manner
  • Ensure daily Report completion for the business and senior management is on time and accurate
  • Complete and deliver a detailed handover

  • Strong knowledge of Transport operations and legislation
  • Previous Management experience
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Requirements
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good verbal and numerical skills
  • IT literate
  • Workload Planning
